When my friend who rides fixed gear bicycles asked me why I like to ride motorcycles, I returned his question with another question, “Why do you like to ride road bikes?” He caulked his head over to one side and quickly answered with, “Because they are faster than every other bicycle on the road and they perform better.” Exactly the reason I ride a motorcycle. Honestly, riding bicycles around the streets of Los Angeles is probably more dangerous than riding a motorcycle because I can at least accelerate away from any potential threat while wearing a full faced helmet, gloves and leather jacket. Riding bikes is a great fitness sport but I stick to a motor on two-wheels.

Skateboarding on other hand is right up my alley. I’ve been skating since a teen. There was a huge gap in between late high school and college where I never picked up a board but now I’m back into the fitness sport partly because my roommate likes to skate as well. There are many different fitness sports to choose from this time of the year with the nice weather but I tend to lean towards skating. Behind the apartment complex where I live, there is a long, smooth concrete trail for joggers, bicyclists, walkers, rollerbladers and skaters. Imagine what a railroad track would look like if covered by a concrete path and grass. That is what this place is all about.

My roommate and I have been trying to skate to the end of the path but it is pretty far. Miles far. We get to a certain point and then want to turn around from exhaustion. Part of the problem was my bearings. They were old and did not spin very well so I went searching for a sporting goods store. KE Active Lifestyle is a sporting goods store found at http://kayserenterprises.ispeedway.com/ had exactly what I was looking for. It has been probably a decade since I bought Black Panther Bearings Abec-3, pictured above but I remember them being fast. My memory did serve me correctly, because after installing them into my wheels, my board floats down the trail. Skating used to be more of fitness sport because I had to work harder to move but now I fly down the trail.

I finally made it to the end of the trail, which actually wasn’t far past where my roommate and I always turn around. Even with more speed, I still come back sweating from this fitness sport. It is a great way to feel the summer breeze and take in all the surrounding scenery.

There is a lot of time for a sporting goods store this time of year. June gloom is in the air but the weather is still looking much better than it was a few months ago. The weeks fly by so much quicker with activity. This past Saturday, I spent the afternoon running back and forth for a tennis ball.

Golf did not go as quickly but that was partly because a person passed out from heat exhaustion on the course before we were going to tee-off and the group in front of us could not have been any slower. You would think a group of five young guys could quickly blow through a Par-3 course but not at all. A sporting goods store is going to help me find a new sleeve of tennis and golf balls for upcoming rounds. Fitness sports is what summer is all about.

Popping a camping tent miles outside of the city, where the only light comes from the few commercial buildings peppered around the landscape and the moon is a really cool atmosphere. The sky seems a lot larger when there isn’t ambient light drawing attention away from it. The sky looked the largest to me in the middle of the desert. There is no confusion why so many telescopes and observatories are set out in the middle of the desert. On a cloudless night when the moon is just a sliver in the sky there is nothing that compares to how dark it can get outside.

Stars dot the landscape, best seen when the rain flap is pulled off the camping tent and you are staring up from a sleeping bag. This could be one of the most relaxing scenarios out there. It is a leading reason why I need to pack the camping gear into the trunk soon and head out into the wilderness.

After hearing that the weather is supposed to take the temperatures into the 90s, this sounded exactly like the kind of way to spend the weekend. His next question was whether or not I had a football we could use to play flyer’s up. I did. Call it dumb luck but early this week, actually on Monday, I had gone online to a sporting goods retailer and picked up a few things for the summer months. A Frisbee, sleeping bag and football all made it onto my sporting goods list. He was really interested in playing catch and finished with a question about tossing around a baseball. I do not.

A football for flyer’s up or running pretend routes through the sand is good enough for me. I’m up early this Saturday morning and can tell there is less cloud cover then normal. I take that as a sign. It will be a warm day for sporting goods.

Over Memorial Day weekend, I pulled out all of the sporting goods and camping gear in the hallway closet for a yearly inspection. Summer officially begins on June 21st but it feels like it is already here. It is about that time of year to get the friends together and head out into nature with camping tents, fishing pools and assorted outdoor gear. The first thing I realized after pulling all this stuff out of the closet was the missing sleeping bag. I took a minute to remember that my old roommate borrowed my sleeping bag during a houseboat trip months back and came back with a really weird rash all over his body. We never figured out exactly what it came from but whatever it was may have slipped in to my sleeping bag so I threw it away and never replaced it.

There is nothing worse than only having losing blankets in a camping tent. No matter where a person is even in the desert, it gets really cold at night. Without much of a choice, I went online in search of a new sleeping bag. There is a serious list to choose from but I found exactly what I wanted within KE Active Lifestyle at http://kayserenterprises.ispeedway.com/. There are different levels of sleeping bags, some designed for casual use and others ready to keep its occupant warm in the harshest of terrains. The Backside HM +20° Blueice Mummy Bag pictured above is on the premium side of the spectrum. It just looks comfortable.
This is the kind of camping gear a person could use any month of the year. Rated a 700 down sleeping bag, it will keep me warm and also extremely comfortable. I’ve also been finding some great looking hikes and campsites online. The next step is rallying the troops, loading up the trucks with camping gear and heading into the great outdoors.

What really got me amped for these next few summer months is a Memorial Day hike a couple of us went on. Locally set in the hills bordering the city, the view at the top was worth the steep goat trail. I was just glad to have hiking shoes because the way down seemed much more dangerous than the way up with the incline, trail width and loose dirt. By the end, I was sweating like a pig but pumped to have found such a great local trail. Next up is taking the camping gear out.

Where does the time go? That means three days off for many and getting out the camping gear supplies, checking the camping tent and enjoying nature at some pretty camping site. This holiday usually signifies the beginning of summer fun and camping and other outdoors sports will be very popular next week-end. My family avoids the huge crowds and will take our camping gear and go on our trip in a few weeks. Even though, the camping sites are busy this time of year, it is still wonderful to pitch your camping tent and just relax in nature. The only camping sites I have ever been to are the ones among the trees and lake. My friends are going camping by the ocean in California and are so excited. I told them to let me know the results of that trip and if really successful, I will mark that destination as a must to go to on our camping list. I love this time of year!

We normally celebrate the onset of the 100 degree weather by packing up our camping gear and heading for the mountains. Just a few weeks ago, I got a new cast iron pan to take camping because I've heard so many good things about using cast iron for cooking. My niece cooks exclusively with cast iron, so I thought I'd give it a try based on her comments.

I ordered a Camp Chef 10'' Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet online and since we have had reasonable temperatures in Phoenix, I decided I'd use it to make breakfast Sunday morning. I took it out of the camping gear, put the bacon in it, and it cooked just perfectly. It was nice and flat, crispy, and it did not stick to the pan. This Camp Chef pan camed seasoned, so bacon was the right thing to make in it for the first time. Once the bacon cooked, I scrambled some eggs in it, let it cool, and put it back in the camping gear knowing that this frying pan was perfect for cooking while we're out camping.

I found it at KE Active Lifestyle at http://kayserenterprises.ispeedway.com/, a great site for camping gear, camping tents, and sporting goods. So far, we have been able to stick around on weekends, but once the mercury starts climbing over 100 or higher, we'll be packing up the camping gear to head for cooler spots. Fortunately it only takes us 90 minutes or less to get to our favorite camping spots in the mountains where it's 30 degrees cooler. Although it seems like our camping trips are spontaneous, we're actually well organized to head out the door on a whim.

We keep all our camping gear in a corner of the garage completely organized by function, and when we have a free weekend, just put it in the van, gather up some food, and head for the hills. The climate in Phoenix is wonderful in the winter, but the summers have a well deserved reputation for being very hot, which is why we chose our home based on its location. We have all the benefits of city life, but since we live on the edge of the city, we're able to get out of town quickly and it's only one long climb to reach the higher elevations that are 30 degrees cooler than our backyard, and just 80 miles away.

I am usually awake just as the sun is beginning to peak it's glowing circular orb above the horizon. I get out of bed and immediately dress in my jogging sporting goods. This includes clothing that breaths and meets my needs for the season. In winter I bundle up while in summer I dress rather lightly. Then I grab a pair of athletic socks and my jogging shoes.

I do not pass go or collect any thing other than my water bottle from the kitchen. Then I head out the front door and begin to enjoy the benefits of my outdoors sport of choice. I have been jogging like this for a number of years. I run down the driveway towards the neighborhood park. There I follow a path that leads me through the neighborhood. I love the smell of the dew on the grass. Often I meet neighbors taking their dogs for walks or other joggers running along the path.

Staying fit with the outdoors sport of jogging has become an integral part of my life over the past few years. I believe it has added years to my life. I have lost a few pounds and gained some muscle which is quite a feat at my age. The early morning movement has acted as a catalyst that drives me to be more active all day long.

I also like to keep in shape with a outdoor activites. So any outdoor fitness sport will always spark an interest in me! I like beach volleyball, mountain biking, fishing and golf. My most favorite of fitness sport of choice is hiking.

I try to hike at a local mountain preserve once a week at least. In order to enjoy this fitness sport l get up before the sun rises. I grab my hiking socks and boots plus a backpack. I fill the backpack with bottles of water, oranges, walnuts and granola bars. I drink water constantly while hiking and enjoy my snacks only after I have reached the simmit of the mountain preserve trail. I usually get there in time to watch the sun come up over the horizon. It is a thing of wonder and beauty. I think there is no better way to start the day!

Yes, hiking is my fitness sport of choice. But often times after an invigorating hike I simply warmed up and ready for a round of golf or a game of volleyball. Luckily, I live in an active fitness sport minded community and have established a very active circle of friends. We are always doing something or other outdoors. It is a good life!

Today when I was looking for new camping gear for our summer trips to the mountains, I ran across a really cool set of utensils that will be perfect for both cooking at home and cooking while we're camping. I ordered two sets of these Brunton Wind River Cook Tools™, because I wanted one set for the kitchen and one set to keep in the camping gear. I keep the kitchen cookware and utensils separate from the ones we take camping. I find that it's so much easier to pack the camping gear when everything we need is all in one place, organized, and the most important thing, complete.

I did the math and found that it makes more financial sense to spend the money to buy duplicate kitchenware for our camping gear than spend an hour every time we go camping sorting through the kitchen to put the necessary cookware in the camping gear. Since I started this practice, it's so nice to know that I have virtually everything in the cooking tub in the garage to make just about anything we want to eat. The reason I wanted to order two of these Wind River Tools is that they have the waved handles, so when I use these in a stockpot or a deep pan, they won't slide down into what I'm cooking and I end up having to fish the utensil out with tongs.

One of our favorite meals when we're camping is gumbo, and that requires lots of stirring, especially when making the roux. The roux is equal amounts of flour and oil cooked until it's a deep brown which takes about 30 minutes. It requires constant stirring, but when it's ready for the vegetables and broth, it just needs an occasional stir which is when these utensils and their handles will come in handy. There will be no slip sliding away when I hook the long handled spoon on the side of the pot with these tools.

I found these at KE Active Lifestyle at http://kayserenterprises.ispeedway.com/, a great site for all kinds of camping gear and sporting goods. We love our camping trips and I've found that getting camping gear is much easier and faster by ordering it online instead of shopping for it locally. I don't know how many stores I would have to go through to find a set of utensils like this. I also like that they come with a stuff sack to keep them organized and clean after they are used and washed. I'll always know where they are and they won't be gathering dust in the garage between camping trips, either. I won't need the stuff sack for the kitchen set, but can use it for other camping gear like our knives or silverware, so all in all, this purchase made a lot of sense.

I really have been upping my collection of camping gear as of late, and really trying to get some truly awesome pieces of camping gear—all so that I can make my many trips this year that much more serene and enthralling. A buddy of mine asked me the other day why I adore camping trips so much, after I showed him my rather impressive collection of camping gear, and for me the answer was really easy to respond with. I told him that I love grabbing my camping gear and heading out to where I am surrounded by Mother Nature, and away from the city. For me, that is almost as good as lying on the beach in a tropical paradise, somewhere like Hawaii!

My brother and I went on a moderate jaunt through the desert amongst Saguaro cactus, quail and loose stone dotting the landscape. By the time we reached the top I was red faced and panting but the view was really worth it. Below was partly desert but also the urban sprawl that had taken over the area during the housing boom. This would not have been a great place to pop a camping tent since the ground was littered with jagged stone but it made for a nice picture.

After I got home, I went online to a sporting goods store to look for new outdoor gear. I need a camping tent. My old one had to go into the dumpster after the poles snapped and a couple of holes speckled the side from wear and tear. Luckily, there is a store who has the kind of deals that keep my checking account happy. I’m still hoping to get out to the forest within the next few months.
